excellent review.

I started using Genesis Framework since the beginning of my blogging journey, more than 5 years ago.
I like the flexibility and customization settings available.
I’ve a few different child themes, installed on my sites.

I’m a big fan of Studiopress!
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this page and for the comments. What about microdata, schema.org markup, on Genesis? I bought Genesis with parallax child theme and I developed my new .com website with basic functions (I like minimal style and I’m not at ease to code). And now I’ve discovered Schema Theme by MyThemeShop, that says it’s faster than Genesis and also assures that it’s the best schema.org friendly theme and the best markup-friendly theme. I would like Your opinion about it, also because I’m going to change theme in my old website http://www.channelhealing.it, I want to put a theme which generates rich snippets. And I have to choose between Genesis and Schema. Thank you!

Fernando, Genesis itself offers basic optimization, with their SEO tab, which at least I consider even irrelevant, because every website needs to have WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin installed which does the same and 100x more.

The next thing about SEO is speed and that was explored quite a bit. Thanks, Fernando!

But still an excellent informative post to go through. Effort is unmatchable. Thanks for the post.

It can be a little overwhelming to start with but once you get to grips with what it is, rather than what you think it should be. Its very rewarding! Also support is 2nd to none! I have been using genesis for years and highly recommend it

Hey Dash, it really depends from each specific case. You must check if the person/team, who developed non-SP child theme is a trusted developer with good background and if there is any community behind it. If non-SP theme is just a design, you should be fine as long as you don’t modify main parent theme files, which is core of Genesis.

There are people, who just use Genesis core and develop their own child themes. I would use their paid child themes only if I really see their demo design has elements that fits with what I need to build in my website. The most important part is Genesis paid framework anyway..and that’s something you will most likely use support for.

Hope that helps! Be cautious, but child-themes should affect mostly just visuals.

Hey Michael, thank you for your insights! Totally agree, Genesis is taking over, with Thesis falling down slowly. I like how ThemeForest is disrupting the market with wide variety of designers and developers getting equal chance to compete with big theme providers. There are many downsides and not so well written code, but after recently reviewing X theme from ThemeForest – , I was left truly impressed with the quality and work put in for the low price.
